Saudi Wage Protection System: Check Your Salary

Saudi Arabia's Wage Protection System (WPS) is one of the most significant worker protections in the Gulf. It requires every employer to pay salaries electronically through registered bank channels, creating a verifiable record of every payment. If your employer is paying late, underpaying, or not paying at all, here is how the system works and what you can do about it.

How the WPS Works

The WPS was introduced by HRSD (Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development) to eliminate cash payments and create accountability. Every employer must register their employees' salary details on the Mudad platform, and all payments must go through approved banking channels.

The system monitors payment timing, amount, and frequency. When an employer fails to pay on time, the WPS flags the violation automatically. HRSD receives real-time alerts when companies fall behind on salary obligations, and enforcement action begins without the worker needing to file a complaint.

Payment Deadlines Under Saudi Law

Article 90 of the Saudi Labour Law (Royal Decree No. M/51) sets clear deadlines for salary payments.

Monthly workers: Must receive salary within 7 days of the end of the month. If your salary period ends on the 30th, payment must arrive by the 7th of the following month at the latest.

Weekly workers: Must be paid within 7 days of the end of the working week.

Piece-rate workers: Must be paid within 7 days of completing the assigned work.

Consequences for Employers Who Violate WPS

Saudi Arabia takes WPS violations seriously. Penalties escalate based on duration and number of affected workers.

1 month late: HRSD issues a warning and restricts the company from applying for new work permits. The company appears as non-compliant on the Nitaqat system.

2 months late: Workers gain the right to transfer to another employer without needing the current employer's consent. Fines of SAR 10,000 per worker are imposed.

3+ months late: HRSD may suspend the company's operations, block all government services, and refer the case to the Labour Court for enforcement. Company owners may face travel bans.

How to Check Your Salary Records

Log into Qiwa (qiwa.sa) with your Absher credentials to view your registered salary and employer details

Compare the registered amount on Qiwa with your actual bank deposits — any discrepancy is a violation

Keep bank statements as evidence — screenshots are acceptable for HRSD complaints

Common trick: Some employers register the correct salary on WPS but then force workers to return a portion in cash. This is illegal. If your employer asks you to return part of your salary, report it to HRSD immediately — this is classified as wage theft.

What to Do If Your Salary Is Late

If your salary is delayed beyond the legal deadline, do not wait. Take these steps in order: first, send a written request to your employer (WhatsApp or email is fine) asking for payment. Keep a screenshot. Second, if no response within one week, file a complaint through HRSD by calling 19911 or via Musaned portal. Third, if salary is delayed by two or more months, apply for employer transfer on Qiwa — you have the legal right to move without your employer's consent.

During the complaint process, your employer cannot cancel your iqama, deport you, or take any retaliatory action. These protections are enforced under the Labour Reform Initiative.
