Qatar Tenancy Law Overview

Qatar's rental market is governed primarily by Law No. 4 of 2008 Concerning Tenancy of Real Properties. This law establishes the framework for residential and commercial leases, including registration requirements, rent increase limits, eviction protections, and dispute resolution mechanisms.

All tenancy contracts must be in writing and registered with the Real Estate Registration Department at the Ministry of Municipality. Unregistered contracts may not be enforceable in court. The law protects tenants from arbitrary eviction and limits rent increases to ensure market stability.

Disputes between landlords and tenants are resolved by the Rental Dispute Resolution Committee, which has the authority to hear cases involving rent disputes, eviction, contract interpretation, and maintenance obligations.
