What Is Ejar?

Ejar is Saudi Arabia's official electronic platform for tenancy registration:

All residential leases must be registered on Ejar

Both parties need valid ID/Iqama linked to contract

Landlord needs title deed or agency authorization

Unregistered leases lack legal protection in disputes

Registration protects both landlord and tenant rights under Saudi rental law.

Why Ejar Registration Matters in Saudi Arabia

Since its launch, the Ejar platform has become the backbone of Saudi Arabia's rental market regulation. All residential and commercial lease contracts must be registered on Ejar to be legally recognized. An unregistered tenancy leaves both landlord and tenant without legal recourse in the event of a dispute.

Ejar registration requires valid identity documents (Saudi National ID or Iqama) for both parties, proof of property ownership (title deed) or an authorized agency agreement, and agreed lease terms including duration, rent amount, and payment frequency. The platform automatically validates these requirements during registration.

For tenants, Ejar registration provides proof of address for government services, protection against arbitrary eviction, and a documented record of lease terms. For landlords, it provides enforcement mechanisms for rent collection and a clear legal framework for dispute resolution through the Enforcement Courts.

Non-compliance with Ejar registration can result in fines and penalties for landlords, and tenants may find themselves unable to access government services that require proof of registered tenancy.
