How to Compare Job Offers in the UAE
When comparing two job offers in the UAE, most people look at the headline salary. But total compensation includes much more — housing, transport, flight tickets, medical insurance, gratuity, and leave entitlements can add 30-50% on top of the base salary.
The basic salary ratio is especially important in the UAE because end-of-service gratuity is calculated on basic salary only. An offer with AED 25,000 total but AED 15,000 basic will yield significantly less gratuity over 5 years than an offer with AED 22,000 total but AED 18,000 basic.
Medical insurance varies dramatically. "Self only" basic insurance costs the company AED 3,000-5,000/year but may leave you paying out of pocket for specialist visits. Family coverage or international plans can be worth AED 15,000-30,000/year — a significant hidden benefit.
Notice periods matter for flexibility. A 90-day notice period means you need 3 months to leave — if you get a better offer with a 30-day start date, a long notice period becomes a liability.
