How Do UAE Visa Overstay Fines Work?
If you remain in the UAE after your visa expires, you will be charged a daily overstay fine by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP). The fine amount depends on your visa type and starts accumulating after any applicable grace period.
For visit and tourist visas, there is a 10-day grace period after expiry during which no fine is charged. After that, the fine is AED 50 per day plus a one-time AED 200 service charge. For residence and employment visas that have been cancelled or expired, you get a 30-day grace period, after which the fine is AED 25 per day.
Overstay fines must be settled before you can exit the UAE or apply for a new visa. In some cases, prolonged overstay can result in a temporary entry ban. The UAE government periodically announces amnesty programmes that allow overstayers to leave without fines or bans — check the ICP website for current offers.
If you are changing jobs in the UAE, your old employer cancels your visa and you have 30 days to either get a new visa or leave. During this transition, make sure your new employment contract terms are favourable — check non-compete clauses, notice periods, and gratuity calculations before signing.
